I’m sure all pool building stories have their fair share of ups and downs and ours was no different!
Our yard was an amazingly awesome size so the first conundrum was where to put the pool? At first I thought it would be on the right side of the yard where all the grass was but then someone recommended the other side where there was just an ugly gravel area and it made total sense!
That’s one reason to have multiple bids for pool building so you can get different design ideas and areas where the pool would work rather than your first thought
We ended up going with the middle to lower costing one not the cheapest but not the most expensive but honestly they were all basically exactly the same cost at the end because we used higher end products anyways which made our original estimate pretty much just a starting point~
Definitely ran into some problems- first day they took out our cable and WiFi and our neighbors cable and WiFi 👎🏻 also the construction eventually took out the power to our landscaping lights and the lights in the playhouse and effectively ruined thousands of dollars worth of sprinklers and thousands of dollars of sod
So the sprinklers and the sod were kind of an expected expense but the others not so much which was not super fun- basically all lines/sprinklers/etc will be ruined so be prepared for extra cost- if we had known we would have preemptively dealt with the sprinklers and electrical lines just to have had it be less of a not fun surprise~
Also our nest smoke detector went crazy with the dust from construction and we had to replace that too😑
Some of the decisions for the design were so hard because you have to make decisions so quickly and you can’t really find awesome pool design help online!
These were my inspiration pics all from Pinterest
My first solid pick was the tile I went with this pretty Cezane turquoise tile and love it!
Next I had to pick the coping (the part that goes around the pool edge) I wanted to have the gray travertine but it wasn’t available so I went with limestone because the sample was so white and I wanted a lot of contrast! My other option was this walnut travertine but I just didn’t like all the yellow and brown in it~ especially with the gray deck~ the limestone has kind of weathered now and isn’t as white but I’m still pretty happy with the choice because I think I would not have liked the other options as much~
The gray travertine was the choice for the pool deck and I love it! My first choice was stamped concrete and I’m super glad I didn’t end up doing that…
My most daring decision was the black pool bottom and I’m so glad I did it! Everyone at Summerhill was telling me it wasn’t a good idea but I just went with it and I’m so glad I did!! I also got crushed abalone (oyster shell looking sparkles) in it that gives it a wonderful sparkle in the sunlight!
I went with the rounded free form look which fits the space perfectly and the bean shaped spa which is also so perfect for fitting in lots of people~ we didn’t have to cut any of the trees down due to the shape and I’m glad of that because I love the shade!
The other fun thing is the whole pool can be controlled with an app on our phones and the cleaning and lights/spa etc.. it makes it so easy to turn the spa on in November and then jump in an hour later to a hot perfect spa!
One cool thing I did was put our pool up on Swimply to rent it out when we are not using it~ very interesting concept and saw them on shark tank recently too!
We love love love our pool and have spent so much time in it!
