Saw this awesome chalkboard painted dresser on Pinterest
So I bought a celtic buffet on Craigslist (sometimes you meet some characters through Craigslist and this was one of those times!) a while back that I was either going to use in our dining room as a buffet or transform it into a TV stand-
In the dining room it was a little wide and I felt like it stuck out into the room a little too much- so I decided to use it for our TV stand.
I had this idea of painting it with Chalkboard paint because I like the matte finish of chalkboard paint and I think it’s cool to be able to write notes on furniture, etc…
WHAT I BOUGHT
1. Sanding blocks
2. chalkboard paint
3. foam roller for cabinets
4. primer (used paint I had)
5. small paintbrush (used a watercolor brush I had)
It was kind of a random piece because parts were made out of good wood and then the top was particle board so I didn’t feel bad painting it
First off I lightly (read lazily) sanded and then primed with some extra blue paint that I had
Next up I painted it with the chalkboard paint (had tons left after I painted it so more projects to come!)
Honestly kind of slapped the paint on (one coat) and hoped for the best
I used a foam roller for the main areas and a small paintbrush for the tighter areas (around the hardware, etc…)
I would have loved to have taken the hardware off to paint but could not figure out how to get these off- it wasn’t just a simple screw~
Here’s what our TV stand used to look like (this was from the hubby’s bachelor pad obviously) and yes that is Modern Family playing (love that show)
And here’s how it looks now!
Pretty awesome transformation! The chalkboard paint dried perfectly and hid my multitude of imperfections and I just love how it looks in the room-
Oh I also had to drill out two big holes in the back in order for the cords to connect to the DVD player and cable box inside the cabinet (also for ventilation)~
I’m honestly really surprised how easy it was to do- now I need to tackle those blank walls 🙂
