Area Rugs Connecting Dining and Living Room -Trying-to-make-my-room-larger

January 24, 2013 | House, House projects

Ugh this rug thing in my living/dining room is KILLING me! Seriously I cannot seem to find a solution that works and I promise I already scoured the internet.

What do people with connected living room and dining rooms do with area rugs?

Most houses I’ve seen recently have the whole connected kitchen/dining/living room thing going on.  I want to be able to use rugs to separate the areas but I have absolutely no room.

Here’s what my too small rug looks like right now underneath my dining room table~

It’s not working because supposedly it needs to be big enough that all the chairs can be pulled out and still be on the rug (which I do agree with) but when I put a bigger rug underneath I get this:

It just makes the room look so much smaller and doesn’t really do any favors to the moroccan rug~So I decided to take the smaller rug off and just keep the large jute (from West Elm) and got this:

Not bad but if you could see it in the room you would notice it still makes the room seem small. Especially when I have another large jute a foot away under the couch looking like this:

So I’m thinking that I would maybe just not have a rug under the dining room table since the table is really long.

And layered the moroccan rug over the jute in the living room giving the whole layered rug effect which I love~

For now it’s perfect and the puppy seems to enjoy it as well!
